The incident happened on Sunday, June 30 at 4:15 a.m., Nassau County Police said.
According to detectives, defendant Alex Rivera of Elmont touched the victim inappropriately against her will after entering the apartment. The victim fought with Rivera to get away several times before successfully escaping him and alerting her parents of the intruder, police said.
Once the parents were alerted, Rivera ran away in an unknown direction. On Tuesday, July 2, at 8:40 a.m. Rivera surrendered to Nassau Police at the 5th Precinct.
Rivera has been charged with burglary, endangering the welfare of a child, sexual abuse, sexually motivated felony and unlawful imprisonment.
He will be arraigned on Wednesday, July 3 at First District Court in Hempstead.
